She slowly trudged across the atrium, her deep eyes gazing out to nothing in particular, as though looking backwards into her mind. She sat down, her manner claiming loneliness and old age. There was no ring on her finger. Was there once? Did she ever long for a golden band to adorn her? Perhaps it is so.

She appears so very lonely. Perhaps the card she asked me to retrieve ... "Thinking of You" ... was a silent wish of a salutation for which she so fervently longs. Her silence breathes sadness as her slow movements indicate a pensive reverence for the moment. Does she have anybody? She appears so alone.

As I speak to her, she seems so very friendly, as though these opportunities are few and far between ... to be cherished. Age breeds memory; memory breeds wisdom; wisdom breeds solemnity. From whence do we glean our discontent?

At times like these, I am reminded of sadness. It is such a mystery, such an enigma. How simple it is to overlook something so simplistic, even childish ... perhaps we ignore such simplicity due to the gravity it entails.

I will never know what emotion my few words and actions brought. As she silently walks away, I know that I will never see her again. I take comfort in what has been done. It is as though there was sincerity in the card I bestowed upon her. Perhaps all she wanted was for someone to think of her.

Spring Break

My goodness. What a week so far. It's been good to let my mind detox a bit while I forget about the real world for as long as I can. I've been doing my best to stray from being too pensive; a difficult task, to say the least. I'll catch myself every so often during the day, but overall, it's been quite beneficial.

I never realized how damaging over-analyzing can be until recently. I don't suppose that thinking is such a horrible thing in and of itself, but so is there an appropriate time for each phase, pensiveness and thoughtless satisfaction.

I could be doing better things than blogging, though.

Concerning Purpose

What a past couple of months this has been. This has been on my mind for a good bit, so I suppose I should put it in writing, lest I forget it and leave it behind.

Change is a powerful and inevitable force, yet stealthy and cunning. It comes in silence and overpowers without fail. What a beautiful thing, then, to witness the inevitable. How wonderful it is to speculate upon a constant occurrence, to understand the path down which one travels.

This year has brought my way a great deal more change than I could have expected. Here I sit, mellowed out, pensive, and unable to keep my mouth shut. My tastes have not so much shifted as they have expanded, and I see my tunnel vision fading as the open skies broaden and my horizon grows. I am becoming a new person.

As I indulge myself in science and the arts, I find more and more that there is order in the universe. It is a comfort to know that, beyond all else, there are at least some things in this world that make sense. There is beauty in the world.

Time progresses and I find myself parting ways with some. This is never an easy thing to do, but it must be done. These past years of my life have been spent searching restlessly for stability and confidence, but they are nowhere to be found. Tides wash away the monuments we build to good nature and permanence.

How refreshing, then, to have stumbled upon such a wonderful group of people as I have. This world has made it difficult to spot a genuine person, but I find that it is not as hard as it seems. Indeed, friends are hard to find (perhaps it is due to my strict definitions), but the search is all too worthwhile.

There are many more words to be spoken, but I rest my head in satisfaction for now. Life is good.

Introductions

How refreshing! It's always a pleasure to start anew. I've operated under a single blog for many years, chronicling my adolescence and changes from the person I was to the person I am. All things considered, this will not be much different. Hopefully it will be less embarrassing. Hopefully it will be more consistent. Perhaps lessened readership (if only temporary) will be somewhat helpful on both counts.

This post, more than anything, is to serve as a filler and/or eye-candy for an otherwise empty blog. Perhaps more substance will float in this direction before too long.
